Summary
This article summarises the outcomes of the high-level study on biomass valorisation technologies and practices in Ireland, highlighting the potential for biomass valorisation and bioeconomy development for resources like grass, agricultural residues, livestock manure, dairy and forestry by-products. Despite strong research capabilities and funding, the full potential remains untapped due to logistical and market challenges. The study underscores the need for advanced technologies and collaborative efforts, such as EIP-AGRI Operational Groups, to promote sustainable biomass in the agriculture and forestry sector to expand Ireland’s use of bio-based technology and practices for an environmentally sustainable future.
