BBioNets is Gearing Up for Autumn!

16th September 2024

The BBioNets project is looking forward to an exciting array of activities after a leisurely summer period! Picking up the pace, partners are finalising the details of their upcoming Forest and Agriculture Network (FAN) meetings in the six countries of the project: Ireland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Poland and the Czech Republic. During these meetings, attendees will discuss partners’ findings as to local needs, challenges and regional dynamics to aid in selecting the most suitable Bio-Based Technologies (BBTs) for their regions. The FANs will then convene transnationally, covering their respective Atlantic, Central European and Mediterranean areas. These meetings aim to encourage cross-regional interaction, share knowledge, stimulate debate, and benefit from each other’s insights.

In addition to the project’s own activities, BBioNets partners are actively engaged in staying updated on current developments and exchanging know-how through organising or participating in numerous events. So, what’s coming up?

To kick off the season, BBioNets will participate in the European Sustainable Nutrient Initiative (ESNI) Conference, taking place on 18th-19th September in Brussels. The event is organised by the Biorefine Cluster Europe (BCE), an initiative that connects projects and people in bio-based resource recovery. At the conference, Ireland’s Agriculture and Food Development Authority (TEAGASC) will present a poster outlining key biomass resources and needs across the six BBioNets regions. The presentation is seen as an important step to raising awareness about the need for circularity in primary production. Read more here.

In Italy, the Council for Agricultural Research and Analysis of the Agricultural Economy (CREA) is attending Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024 on 26th-30th September, organised this year in Turin. The theme for the 2024 edition is “We Are Nature” and Terra Madre promotes a gentle revolution where people can find a new balance with nature. On this occasion, CREA will organise a meeting with its FAN to further present the BBioNets objectives and developments, providing information on the benefits of adopting BBTs and their impact on economic, social, and environmental sustainability. All those interested in joining the FAN are cordially invited to attend.

Our coordinator, Munster Technological University (MTU), and TEAGASC are preparing the online event “Empowering Ireland’s Farmers and Foresters: A Focus on Biobased Solutions through BBioNets”. The event will be held during the annual, week-long Bioeconomy Ireland Week, running from 14th-20th October. It will include a panel discussion with representatives from Irish EIP-AGRI Operational Groups, as well as national and international projects. The focus will be on exploring bio-based solutions and opportunities within the bioeconomy, specifically tailored for farmers and foresters in Ireland.

The Fundación Corporación Technológica de Andalucía (CTA) together with TEPRO Consultores Agrícola SL (TEPRO) will represent our project at Fruit Attraction, one of the biggest trader fairs of the agriculture sector in Europe, happening this year on 8th-10th October, in Spain.  Our colleagues will be giving a one-hour talk about BBioNets at the Biotech Attraction Forum, explaining how the project strives to shape the future of sustainable practices through agricultural and forest biomass valorisation technologies.
